The Article

HANNAH FAIRFIELD wrote a good article for the NY Times about how digital information is replacing paper. A couple examples she brings up that I completely agree with are: online bill-paying, airplane e-tickets, and local newspapers. The benefits of keeping paper information digitally are great. One reason people prefer digital over paper is they feel it is better for the environment. Personally I don’t care about all that tree hugging stuff. The other reason (why I like it) is because of the convenience of being indexed much easier and also the fact that you can scan or photograph an entire lifetimes worth paper information (think bills, outlines, school project info.) that you would receive and store it on a storage device smaller then your thumbnail. I do however believe that their are forms of media and information that will always exist and will not ever go away, books. Books will always mostly be read in the paper form because part of the experience of reading a book is flipping through the pages and the smell of the paper.
